GROWING ARTISTS

LSC’s work with schools is expanding as the degree of collaboration and trust between all partners, teachers and parents strengthens. Our programme supports work with primary and secondary schools each year and extends to supports for emerging artists coming from third level institutions.

The programme is divided into three areas:

  • Schools Exhibitions
  • Working Together – Collaboration Through Sculpture (CTS) Schools projects
  • Emerging Artists – Exhibitions for young and/or recent graduate artists.
  • Growing Artists Schools Exhibition

Growing Artists Schools Exhibition is the first exhibition in Manorhamilton in which all the National and Primary Schools in the town work together in developing an exhibition. Over eighty children participated from St Clare's National School, Masterson's Primary School and the Gaelscoil, Manorhamilton. The exhibition celebrated diverse cultural and educational trajectories of the schools, over the previous year.

Special thanks to all the heads of the schools and especially all the briliaint artists who took part.

  • Collaboration Through Sculpture I

Instigated by parents of the children attending the Gaelscoil in Manorhamilton, this project educated the children about different processes and materials with which to create a permanent mural for their school playground. During the period of the project, students were invited to explore various techniques such as mouldmaking, lazercutting and mosaic. They individually created portraits and collectively worked with a guitar sculpture for the mural display. The LSC and the FABLAB provided the facilities and expertise to make the objects for the mural. Many thanks to Anne Lewis for co-ordinating the project and Nick Hughes for his demonstrations in metal casting.
