Made In Manorhamilton presents a collaboration between artist in residence Deirdre Nelson and the residents of the town of Manorhamilton. It highlights and celebrates the ‘act of making,’ past and present, in a variety of forms, materials, objects, colour and text. In developing the project the community were invited to interact with the exhibition by including their own ‘making’ practices and experiences alongside the artist. Members of the public loaned to the exhibition a wide range of objects, materials, manufactured goods, produce, crafts and historical artifacts that reflected the diversity of making in Manorhamilton both past and present.
Deirdre Nelson
Deirdre Nelson is an Irish artist/designer based in Glasgow. Nelson studied textiles at Glasgow School of Art 1992 and obtained an M.Phil, in 1996. She has exhibited internationally and nationally and undertaken residencies both in the UK and Australia. Her exhibitions include: The Kildas Glasgow School of Art + Touring 2016; Designed with Heart, St Etienne Design Bienalle 2011; Between the Line, Harbourfront Arts Centre, Toronto, Canada, 2013; White, La Porte Peinte Centre for the Arts, Noyens Sur Surein France 2011; Close at Hand Owens Gallery, Sackville NB, Canada 2011; Unexpected Guests, “Homes of Yesteryear, Design of Today” Poldi Museum, Milan, 2010.
