Exhibition Residencies
My practice explores the relationship between digital imagery and painting. I work with inkjet prints, which are manipulated in various ways. The images are then manipulated further through a variety of painting applications. Depending on how the paint is applied, the original image changes and the boundaries between what is painted and what is not become blurred. I intentionally use a combination of painting with digital photography to create an obscure surface where the painted and photographic elements can shift roles. Colour plays an important role, where it is used to create a variety of spaces. Mapping and creating spaces, some of which are real, and some of which are imagined is an ongoing concern.
My work engages with the history of painting and the way in which new technologies can generate visual information. It addresses digital imagery and takes its possibilities on board and reuses them in painting.
Born in Co Leitrim, Majella Clancy completed an MFA at The University of Ulster, Belfast in 2006. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Queen Street Studios Gallery, Belfast. Group exhibitions include “Eight”, Dock Arts Centre, Co Leitrim “Christmas Show”, Curated by Sarah McAvera, The Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast, “Ephemeral Boundaries” Talbot Gallery, Dublin.
Her work is represented by The Golden Thread Gallery Belfast. Forthcoming events in 2010 will include a solo exhibition at The Naughton Gallery at Queens University, Belfast and a solo exhibition at Ballina Arts Centre. Her work is included in many collections including OPW, Dublin, The Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The University of Ulster Permanent Collection.
