My work fluctuates between protagonist and antagonist, reading the landscape and its potential for transformation. A series of actions exist within the public sphere and the gallery, interactions and interventions which crystalize the incidental moment in an expanding process of enquiry.

Emma Houlihan

Emma grew up in County Clare where she now lives and works. Her art practice is diverse and varied - she loves to work with institutions and curators to create project-based site responsive works, but these opportunities don’t often fall from the sky and for years now Emma doesn’t make applications, unless it is something is really special.

In these non application making years Emma has developed a quite studio practice, that takes it’s cue from the everyday encounter. From where she lives, what she sees and witnesses. These works are comprised of paintings, prints, collections, photography, performances and videos she makes on her phone. She received her MFA from the Royal Insitute of Art in Stockholm in 2013.
