Exhibition Residencies
Reynolds' practice is strongly research and process driven; investigations include the use of live action and video. Carefully selected sites, and their inherent qualities, are central to these enquiries.
By combining traces of free association with historical/scientific truths her work strikes a balance between rationalism and fantasy. Recent activities have been informed by an interest in social and economic theory with a particular focus on industrial processes and the commodification of labour. Cause and effect, repetition and cyclical patterns are recurring themes. Documentation of ‘once-off’ events is considered in its broadest terms, this may prove to be a text, an image, an object or an experience where appropriate.
Elaine Reynolds studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin and the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She graduated in 2007 with a degree in Fine Art Sculpture. She has participated in numerous exhibitions residencies and site-specific projects such as ‘New Sites – New Fields’ at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre, ‘Eight’ at the Dock Arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon, the ART@WORK programme, Co. Roscommon and ‘Preponderance of the Small’ the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin. In July 2010 Reynolds will participate in the Advanced Course in Visual Arts at Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como, Italy, with visiting professor Hans Haacke.
