The facility was recently installed next door to the Metal Foundry and Ceramics Studio. These processes are placed together so that artists can experiment across mediums and that heat generated from melting can be recuperated to heat other parts of the building including public exhibition and project space at the front of the Factory.

Facilities include:

• One tank furnace (gas), melting 250kg Glasma batch
• One glory hole 490mmx600mm (gas)
• One front loading kiln (75x46x70cm) (electric)
• One top loading kiln (52x88x52cm) (electric)
• Two benches
• One marver
• Good selection of blowpipes, ladles and hand tools
• Safety protection clothing
  

The in house facility expert is Louise Rice who studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and The Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
