Residency - 14th to 30th July 2025
Matthew Lintott is a visual artist who specialises in woodcut relief printmaking working out of BRICKS community studios in Bristol. His work is an exploration of deep time and space. 'I view my practice as a collaboration with the past, and with the ancient materials I am working with. Inspiration for my work comes from myth, symbolism, and the geological perspective. I print by hand without the use of a printing press.
His practice is informed by cross disciplinary field research in the areas of geology and paleobiology. ‘To look back as a catalyst for transformation of the present.’ He uses recurring visual motifs to explore the four classical elements of earth, air, water and fire to create ‘modern relics’. These emblems aim to offer the viewer a gateway to the ancient.
Matthew Lintott graduated from the Multi-disciplinary printmaking MA at UWE in 2021. After graduation he was awarded the Printmaking Today Editorial Prize at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. This was shortly followed by a year-long residency at Spike Print Studios in Bristol after securing the Petter Reddick Bursary. He is both a Portal and New Platform Artist alumni. in 2022 he received the inaugural Rabley Gallery print prize. He is represented by Hancock Gallery.
His work has featured: Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, WAC and The International Original Print Fair. He has held solo shows in Bristol UK and Minnesota USA. His work has been published both internationally and nationally.
