Artist Statement: Sophie Foster's artistic practice revolves around site-specific performance and temporary intervention about narrative, identity, memory and place. She has a prolific interest in engaging with architectural, natural and historical sites and how they are commemorated within social and political contexts. Her aim is to extract memories within specific locations using outdoor space as a catalyst for discussion, utilising photography, installation and performance methods to achieve it. She is currently investigating the physical action of walking and place making and how they demonstrate navigational decisions, as well as questioning the archival processes into personal memory and connections one has to a site.
